This site is no longer active; many of the cafes closed after the 2011 earthquake, and it was formally archived in 2019. Thanks for visiting!

Review of Essential Foods (closed?) by Alex on Sun, 08 Oct 2006:

This cafe has been open over a 18 months now, and ever since opening, these guys have used a locally-roasted coffee, "Machiatto", which I think is FairTrade AND organic. This is the best and freshest espresso coffee I have tasted in the whole of Masterton, (maybe even the Wairarapa)!

They are friendly and accomodating, and the foods (like the kumara and tomato sausage rolls) are delish! However, they have recently lost one of the original staff, which has changed the dynamics a bit, but this will hopefully settle down.

Great place, check it out!! ;-)

Review of DM Coffee by Alex on Wed, 09 Apr 2008:

Have tried a long black at the Railway station and found it totally tasteless and uninspiring - bought some roasted beans in a fancy foil packet, which were already 10 days old and stale when tried. The rest went onto the fire as kindling. Sorry - it didn't cut it at all. :-(
