coffeenut- I am very sorry for the poor impression you received of our store.
We have had a change of ownership since you last stopped in, and a new management structure which has emphasised cleaning and hygiene much more.
For the record, in 3 years the shop has never had a complaint about sparrows soiling drinks, and only 3 times have customers complained of being hit themselves- in every case because they moved the chairs from their original positions to sit under a sparrow perch.
I also have record of a council review at the end of November which had no problems with the cafe- I think you may have been unlucky enough to meet a poor staff member- we had to let some people go shortly after your visit.

Please come in and ask for Chris, I would love the opportunity to show you what we can do with a free coffee and muffin.

Went to have lunch there during a work day and when we arrived, saw a few tables outdoor with customers enjoying the sunny weather but we chose to be seated inside. 5 of us ordered open sandwiches and the time then was 1.07pm. After waited for 50 mins, there was still no sign of our meal appearing. When the waitress was approached, her answer was "its coming". Don't they always say that to all waiting customers? The meals finally turned up at 1.55pm and we had to feed the parking meter to extend the parking time. Service is horrendously poor!!! Don't they realise it's a weekday and some people need to get back to work? It's no surprise to me that they business has gone down. I said to the table that we can write this place off for meals.

My husband and I stopped in for a coffee and were tempted to order the full cooked breakfast. It was an outstanding, delicious meal, even better than home-cooked (not just because I didn't have to cook it!) The friendly staff followed our exact requests for eggs, bacon, etc., and it was all luscious. The coffee is the best. We had such a good meal we went back for lunch, and as we were heading back to Christchurch that day, we bought some of the slices and goodies "for the road". So we snacked on Robert Harris fare on the way home. It's our favourite Robert Harris anywhere in the country we've been, including Auckland, Whangarei, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch. I think it's the friendly West Coast welcome and professional service besides the great food that we really appreciate, they sure know how to take good care of their customers. You can be sure we'll be back next time we're on the Coast. We recommend to friends and family, as we are confident they'll not just get the best coffee, but great "home-cooked" style food and great service. When you're travelling, you need to have that confidence. OK so I've poured my heart out, and I definitely think everyone will have the same great experience! A real gem of a coffee shop located in the most unlikley of places (opposite The Warehouse on Devon Rd in Bell Block). One of the best coffee's I have had.
Arrived hot in a fast time, smooth flavour well made, this is a must stop cafe, and i will certainly make a point of returning in the future.
Food is great, courtyard garden at rear and a couple of dining areas it is a great spot for a quiet coffee or a catch up in a relaxed atmosphere

Good coffee, price compatitive on coffee and tastes great.
Friendly staff and nice atmmosphere. Food looks very nice but a little more expensive than some.
Will be sure to return when in Hawera

came in today, Valentines day, got served by a older lady with a bun(curly hair) she was HORRIBLE!!! RUDE didnt even smile at any of us!! i wil never return ever! i am disscusted as we have been there a few times i couldn't believe how rude she was! the other 3 staff were fine but that lady DONT GO THERE EVER!!!!!!! SHE IS HORIBLE!!!!!

Looks like this is the old Double Drop Cafe, which was more of a bar/nightclub than a cafe. (The owners sold it and bought Double Happy, down the road, which people now call Double Happy Drop).

This place needs some identity, It is not the kind of place that draws you in but once inside you are in for a shock, the cheapest coffee $3 and the best taste in Christchurch. The food on the other hand was not inviting and nothing in the cabinet could tempt me. But if it is all about the coffee go there. Well done guys 9/10

Love the cofee, love the staff, I'm completely addicted! THE best coffee in Nelson and congratulations Zumo's on combining service and different coffee types to try and for establishing a purveyors of fine coffee. Too many cafes in nelson can't be bothered training their staff properly but you guys care, and if you make a mistake you are quick to fix it. Well done 10/10

Nice atmosphere and nice service in general on the positive side, but the new manager Simon ( I made a point of remembering him!) Was annoying at best, didn't appear to do any work and was generally an annoying ass. Food was of a 'pizza hutt' standard and that's being kind. Very oily polenta fries , very average pizza. The place was overly dark and felt like what it really is which is a re-furbished car park.
The only thing that was good was the coffee.

Honestly if they got rid of the night time Chef (and I understand her name is Nicky) they would probably do quite well.

I would avoid this overly trendy spot at all costs. The owner Lisa appears to only provide good service to those 'appearing to be' wealthy.
This restaurant would simply last two weeks in any other place in the world.

Love the coffee, love the service!

Dear Lovebenny - there are no eco-friendly PAPER coffee cups... that's why they only make plates and cutlery from potatoes. There are some with Polylactic acid lamination, but they are still made from paper.

BUT Zumo cups are recyclable and all recycled material must start with virgin material (the fibres only last the recycling process so many times). Most paper mills are now very environmentally conscious as they have to be very competitive - there are several bodies that govern mills these days (WMF - Well Managed Forests, FSC - Forest Stewardship Council to name a mere couple) So unless the cups come from the Bazillian rainforest, you can be reasonably happy that as long as you recycle your cup, you are doing your bit.

If you are that environmentally conscious - take in your own mug to be filled - and absolutely no carbon footprint... unless you drive to Zumo!

This cafe is set in a garden, complete with works of art. Inside there is more art for sale.
The coffee and food are great and it has a great atmosphere. It's very popular with young and old.
