Hard to believe some of the reviews of Procope. We love the coffee - always hot, generous cups and no price rise since GST went up.Darrell and co are extremely friendly, greeting us (and many others) by name and acknowledging our departure. There are many regulars which has to be the real test of a cafe. Our experience of Procope is light years apart from Caroline and Maggie,in the previous review.

staff..... as frindly as a barracuda, coffee.....tasteless. Though some people Im sure enjoy that sort of thing, they must because the place always seams to be busy, But so is a foodcourt..... Franchise it to china or seattle or something maybe.... In saying that it may of being a bad day.

Procope despite the name is one of my favorite cafes. The coffee at Procope is always fantastic, fast and delicious. The food at procope is always different and exciting there is always lots to choose from and as I am not a cappuccino drinker I know good coffee when I taste it. Procope is always busy and the staff are happy if not a bit cheeky, they have my coffee ready for me before I order, I would be lost without Procope. I often pop in for a creamy strong piccallo in the morning, and unlike some people I have better things to do than spend my days drinking coffee and writing malicious reviews.

Just a quick note Procope prices pale in comparison to pretty much any other cafe in NZ, which i feel shows how much they care for their customers.

Cheers Procope for keeping it honest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Procope You Good Thing

Being younger than 60 i enjoy 'cool' service, and i love procope and their fantastic staff. they make a superb coffee (usually) and if the service is a little slow.... hey, they are only human, and they do the best they can. That said they remember mine and my partners coffees and are usually ready and waiting for us by the time we gt the front of the line.
Screw the haters Procope, we love you

Well below average coffee, slow, rude staff, and it takes FOREVER to get a freakin cup of coffee. There are so many good cafes around the area that you think they'd pick up their game, but sadly, no.

I had never been to this place nor could I pronounce it... by the way it is PRO-CO-PAY.... Up front I moved into the office above Procopé had no idea of it, nor coffee or food. The FOOD ROCKS, my partner comes here for lunch whenever she can and comments on how great it is and how lucky we are to be above it. The staff are great the best crew I have met and as for too cool???? eh? not like the above reviews...I think the above reviewers need to go back in really. 5 stars out of 6, 1 star when they deliver coffee to me at work in the morning... whoops they do, 6 out of 6. This was selected as runner up to best cafe in Canterbury or Christchurch without entering. I only found this site when I was trying to find out the correct spelling, then saw the reviews and thought wow suck reviews... so I am here to state what I think and know.

I buy (or bought) my beans from here- reasonable consistency at a good price- and they make a good espresso. My gripe is with the service- too much effort put into being cool, not enough into satisfying the customer. Suggestion- if you ask a customer if they are being served, it implies that you are willing to serve them. I never had any problems when it was Hummingbird. From now on I'll pay the extra and go to C1.

This was once our favourite cafe but sadly it's lost the plot under the Procope livery. The coffee is disappointing and the owners don't appear to care much. Food's not what it used to be either.

Procopé looks like a very cool, interesting place to have a coffee. Nice art outside, and nice décor inside. However, the service and coffee wasn't quite as good as expected. I didn't see any of the staff smiling, and the waitress delivering people's coffee looked tired and uninterested. The standard size cappucino was quite a bit bigger than what you get in most cafés, and too hot, making it pretty tiring to drink.

If you like large coffees, though, it would probably be OK. Based on this first impression, I'd rank Procopé above places like Robert Harris, but it doesn't make it into the 'top tier' of cafes (see: Bicycle Thief, Wac, C1). It would be a nice meeting place if you live in the Merivale area.

I don't want to condemn the place based on one cold morning, though - I'll be back for a small takeaway coffee sometime and see how that turns out.
